    What was once common is increasingly rare, it’s good some of these units are being saved and displayed for future generations to see hear and watch them work . Just as important the skills to maintain and operate are passed along or the machines will just become curiosities

    Electric fuel pumps are a simple fix but several times I've seen them over fuel and cause running issues and in one case wash the cylinders over time so the engine burned oil. Definitely a neat old truck, thanks for sharing with us.

    Probably just as expensive as having a machine shop spray-weld that shift stem.....it would have to be turned to one diameter the length of the stem.....then built up with spray-weld.....then turned to dimension.... IF there was drawings available.✌

    I have a 1944 B hand start and I've been through a lot of what you've done here so I appreciate the work you've done. To solve the ceiling problem, the easiest thing is a 90 degree elbow on top of the muffler. Or at least that has worked well for me. Also I'm thinking Welch plugs are the convex sheet metal disks. The plugs on the carb are just threaded brass plugs. I also have a set of three long drills that are the correct sizes to chase out all the holes in the carb. Anyway, glad it's running.

    Even if such a thing still existed in the UK that would be impossible due to the corrosion caused by our warm damp climate

    • @RustyRescues

      Believe it or not, the environment here is even worse, some refer to it as "The rust belt". Very high humidity and warm summers combined with very harsh winters that will ice jack and damage anything left to the elements, as well as extreme use of salt which then accelerates summer corrosion even more. Doing this type of work here is indeed, extremely difficult.

    Great job, love to see it! Here in Sweden these old John Deer's are a bit rare and hence quite expensive (8-10'000 USD ish when running) - so as of yet I haven't worked on any. That makes it extra fun to see the their engineering and quirks, even though we sure have a lot of other oddball machinery here! We love our hotbulbs haha.

    • @RustyRescues
      @RustyRescues 4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the positive feedback, hard to imagine the old John Deere's being rare, they are everywhere here! On the same token, the hot bulbs are uncommon here and equally neat to see. Have checked out a few of your vids, you have some neat equipment!

    Grief is not a quick process, and I feel your pain. I lost my wife of 28 years last March (2023) to a rare brain disease. It was an awful 5 year ordeal watching her go downhill, and as glad as I was for our God to call her home and end her suffering, her absence has been devastating to me. Always a project guy, she used to get irritated at me because I was constantly working on something! Steel fab, woodworking etc, I had to doing something! Now, all I care to do is sit. No interest at all in any of my hobbies. I hope you stay busy, remember the good times, his wisdom, and know that he’d want you to carry on! My thoughts are with you !
